How are appointments made?
Appointments to St. Charles Catholic Sixth Form College are made largely on the basis of applicants' performance at interview and their written statements of application, although some use is made of references assuming that these have been made available by the time of the interview. All appointments are subject to appropriate checks through the Criminal Records Bureau. Full verbal debriefings are always offered candidates who have been interviewed.
 
Can newly qualified teachers apply for teaching positions?
Yes . The College welcomes applications from newly qualified staff, or from those in school posts who are seeking post -16 experience. We also have experience of supporting teachers who have not yet completed a teaching qualification to full qualified teaching status, through college-based training programmes. The College is also able to make appropriate arrangements with its 11-16 partner schools to enable those staff who have just completed full PGCEs to undertake some pre-16 teaching, so that they can successfully meet the requirements of the probationary year.

Do you have to be Catholic to work at the College?
No. It is not necessary for teachers or support staff to be from a Catholic background. This requirement only applies to the positions of Principal, and Vice-Principal. Teachers are asked at interview if they feel that they can be supportive of the Catholic ethos of the College. But this is defined in as inclusive a manner as possible and there is opportunity in the interview to fully discuss this.
