The Francis Crick Institute: Meet a Scientist Visit
On 28th June, we had a really informative trip to The Francis Crick Institute. The visit started with a thorough introduction from one of the head engineers, who gave a brief talk about a day in their job. It was really fascinating to hear about the small jobs behind the big scientific breakthroughs. Afterwards, we visited the exhibition where many processes involved in a scientific investigations were highlighted, such as the use of electron microscopes, incubation and centrifuge.
We also met Anisha Ramessur, who is an immunology researcher and is currently working on cancer research. She gave us an insight into her project: they are investigating the role of neutrophils (a type of white blood cell) in tumours, comparing the numbers and behaviour of these cells in breast cancer patients and healthy people.
In conclusion, we got to meet people who contribute to making the world better using science.
