Media Students Visit the Into Film Festival

Our Year 12 A level Media students visited the Empire Haymarket Cinema on Thursday to see the extraordinary and unsettling new film Here for Life, directed by Andrea Luka Zimmerman (Artangel) and Adrian Jackson.

The screening was part of the Into Film festival that runs throughout November every year.

Following the screening, Andrea and Adrian talked with the students about their filmmaking experiences and gave excellent insider advice on careers in the film industry.

After lunch, the Media students went to The Photographers' Gallery in Ramilles Street to tour the new exhibition Shot in Soho and considered how this most iconic area of London has been represented in photography and popular culture over the decades.

This trip is an important part of the A Level Media Studies course; exposing learners to alternative media productions, exploring the media industries and building powerful skills of textual analysis.

The second day of the visit saw the students take in a screening of Wild Rose, before attending a brilliant Creative Careers seminar. The day was rounded off with another visit to The Photographers' Gallery to see some of the street and food photography.

The students really enjoyed the visit and the chance to actively participate in activities that directly relate to their course.
