The new term gets off to a good start with our Jack Petchey September 2020 Award Winner - Marimar Antypa

J. Petchey Marimar Antypa

Marimar Antypa studying A level Economics, History and Sociology is a very hardworking student.  She is described as an excellent student by her teachers, and someone who puts in “a phenomenal level of effort” into her studies. This was something that remained consistent also in lockdown, her teachers reported.

Marimar is a great asset to the college community giving freely and willingly of her time.  She displays a real sense of community spirit!  She regularly helps out in in her subject departments with displays and volunteers at open events throughout the year. Most recently she was a fantastic ambassador helping out at enrolment and induction for our September 2020 intake.

A committed and enthusiastic tutor group representative, she has been generous with her time and energy “getting splashed with water and making delicious cupcakes to raise money for charity”. She was described as “the best tutor group ever” by Ms Roquain for her contributions to the college’s charities week last year. She is also member of the college’s Chaplaincy committee and has attended the college’s annual retreat to Kintbury, where she was cited as a valuable addition to team work.  She also competently took on the role of stage manager in the college’s annual Christmas 2019 cabaret production.  Marimar is clearly involved in quite a range of cross- college activities!

During lockdown, Marimar was keen to keep fit and healthy and she kept herself busy compiling videos of her training, which she shared with peers boosting their well-being in these difficult times. A keen basketball player, she is a member of St Charles’ girls basketball team.  Marimar is part of a large extended family so she had to help out a lot at home in lockdown with home schooling for example, but she managed to read lots of books and write some thought provoking poetry and songs to keep her creativity flowing!  She is currently compiling a short anthology on self-awareness themes which we are looking forward to reading.
