Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

We’ve reached the end of another year, and it certainly feels strange finishing the term without all our students. Christmas this year, like last year, seems full of uncertainty and anxiety for many of us. However, the Gospel for Christmas Day offers us some hope: “the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it” (John 1:5).

We are reminded that the light of Christ will still come down to earth this Christmas, and that Christ brings a light that no amount of darkness, anxiety or uncertainty can put out. As St Francis of Assisi said: “All the darkness in the whole world cannot extinguish the light from a single candle”.

And so, this Christmas, let’s refocus our minds on the manger, as we wait in darkness, for our Light to illuminate our hearts and lives this Christmas.

Wising you all a safe, happy and holy Christmas,

James

College Chaplain
