Jack Petchey Award Winner November 2016

Reshane Martin Smith was  nominated for his outstanding approach to his college studies in the face of adversity. He is studying L3 Bus, AL Sociology and GCSE Maths. Reshane is described as a humble and delightful young man by staff and peers, he always has a smile on his face! Despite having significant challenges to deal with on a daily basis, he never moans and his kind and generous nature are some of his many attributes. He is a keen martial arts person and in particular likes Judo where he has been involved in competitions etc. Involved in a variety of activities, he is a responsible young man whose compassion for others and selfless disposition is admirable and sets him apart.

At the time of going to press, Reshane was finalising how to spend his £250. The possibility of inviting a Judo speaker/demonstrator for a group of cross-college students interested in an martial arts enrichment activity was being explored and/or a team building activity for his business group.

Reshane said he was touched that college staff and peers thought so highly of him as he had no idea. "It made me feel very happy," he said.
