Jack Petchey Award Winner February 2016

Shamime is in her first year here at St Charles Catholic Sixth Form studying AS Economics, History, Politics and Music Technology. A positive role model for others both in and out of college, Shamime was nominated for her exemplary commitment and approach to everything that she’s involved in.

She is an excellent student with an outstanding attendance and punctuality record. This is particularly noteworthy as she had to move boroughs mid-course due to personal circumstances and she now travels quite a distance to College to study her 4 A levels which she is thoroughly enjoying. At college she is respected for her pro-active and supportive approach of the College community and peers and she is a very committed tutor group representative.

Outside college she is equally as supportive and helpful; she helps with family events and volunteers in her old secondary school working as a mentor to the children; she is a talented musician and involved in related events and she is currently a deputy member of the Kensington & Chelsea Youth Parliament. This is fitting as she wants to study PPE at Oxford in the future.

Shamime said “I feel proud to have been given this award in front of all my peers. I like the award because it highlights all the positive things young people at St Charles, and elsewhere, get involved in creating a great sense of community“.

She is now looking forward to investing her £200 award money to benefit her peers and the College.
