Home Team (St Charles 1st XI) - vs - City of London
Fixtures & Results
A real game for the natural and a game that had everything, goals, bookings, great individual play and the lead swapping hands. We went in at half time level despite us taking the lead through Meron Abraham, this was cancelled out by a City of London penalty that was confidently tucked away. The half also saw an outstanding double save from goalkeeper Seydou Traore.
The 2nd half was just as breathless as the the first, it was again St Charles who drew first blood when a Hamid Noori corner was headed home by Adam Hamdi. Chances were created and missed by both teams but unfortunately for us the next goal went to City of London through of a close range finish. With the full time whistle blown and the teams locked at 2-2 it was on to extra time.
The first period of extra time saw City of London hit the post and St Charles had shots from Noori and Glenn Annang well saved by the opposition keeper. With both team tiring it was City of London who took the lead for the first time when poor marking in the box saw a bullet header planted into the back of our net.
With 10 minutes remaining what followed can only be described as one of the greatest comebacks in St Charles history. Firstly after a long throw from Joseph Agunloye was only half cleared, the ball pin balled around the City of London box where it fell to the feet of Bilal Bihi who smashed home through a sea of bodies to bring the scores level again. St Charles were not done though and with the possibility of the cup being shared we pushed for the winner. A delightfully weighted ball from Annang caught the City of London back line high and square, this allowed the hard working Jose Dougan to out pace the last defender and coolly roll the ball past the advancing keeper to spark wild celebrations on the pitch and in the stands.
