Chona joined St Charles Sixth Form College from one of our partner schools, All Saints Catholic College in September 2020. She is in her second year in college having studied L1 ICT in 2020/21,  achieving an impressive Double Distinction award at the end of the course.  She is currently studying L2 Art and Functional Skills Maths and English L1.

Chona is making excellent progress this year in college and is thoroughly enjoying her courses.  Ms Hemsley, Ms Abbas and Ms Ellwood who all teach Chona Art this year describe her as “a hardworking and reliable student who has shown great dedication to her art work.  She is thoughtful in her approach and is well deserving of this award.”

Ms Adam from the College’s learning support department who works closely with Chona on a daily basis as her LSA finds working with Chona extremely rewarding and describes her as “a diligent, conscientious and hardworking student.  Chona is always prepared and on time and willing to share her resources and knowledge with her peers” and Ms Lancaster her Maths teacher, describes Chona as “a model student who always works hard and completes all tasks to the best of her ability”.

Chona has always enjoyed Art and the L2 Art and Design course here at St Charles is living up to her expectations! She  is loving the course especially the drawing element.  Chona tells me that Art relaxes her and she enjoys working in the Art department at her own pace to complete the tasks set. Chona says that her Art teachers and Ms Adam are really supportive and inspirational and are always encouraging her to produce the best possible work to a high quality. She is on target to get a Merit Distinction at the end of the course and hopes to progress onto L3 Art and Design.

Chona says that “I know I can go to Ms Adam my LSA or Ms Cotter my caseworker if I have any worries and concerns regarding my course or anything else in college.  I also enjoy my sessions with Victoria the Speech and Language Teacher who comes in to visit me in college twice a term. She has helped me to become more confident and has given the teachers strategies to help me.  I have contributed to college wide events such as charity fundraising cake sales and Christmas Jumper events. I am also very proud of my 100% attendance and punctuality record for which I received an Amazon voucher at the end of term!  I have made friends in college and regard Hamida as my best friend. St Charles is a lovely place and I am very happy here”.

In addition to her studies Chona also finds time to participate in the College’s enrichment programme. She attends Art Club on Wednesday afternoons and really enjoys this activity. Last year she was also a very regular attendee at the Board Games Club and especially enjoyed playing UNO with Hamida and peers.

We are all proud of Chona’s accomplishments so far at St Charles and we look forward to seeing her progress onto further studies and supporting her in her academic journey and personal development. She is a young person of impeccable manner and a credit to herself and all the groups she’s involved in, in the college.
