Our Student of the Month February 2022

Hossain Ozlat

Hossain came to St Charles Sixth Form College from St. Augustine’s C of E High School in September 2021. He was particularly interested and successful in ICT and Digital Skills at school so it no surprise that he opted to continue his studies in this area at college.

He is currently studying L1 ICT with FS English and Maths. Having made an excellent transition to sixth form, Hossain has become a well-respected and popular member of the college community. He is making excellent progress academically and he takes full advantage of the College’s Enrichment programme, participating in the Cyber Security, Chess and the Rainbow Clubs.

His contributions are valued by staff who work with him who comment that “he is extremely hardworking and courteous”, “he is well organised and kind”, “his enthusiasm is infectious”, “he is polite, super- positive”, he is “precise and thorough in his work“ and “a real star”- what a great list Hossain! We are particularly proud of Hossain’s success in his recent two week work experience placement at his old secondary school. Hossain demonstrated his independence and maturity in organising a pre visit where he met his mentor/supervisor to enquire about his proposed daily routine and duties as a volunteer. Hossain kept a detailed log of everything he achieved whilst on work placement. His tasks included administration support for their SEND department, assisting in year 11 ICT lessons by organising the department’s folders and helping preparing resources.

The teachers at St Augustine’s said Hossain had brought a happy and positive vibe to the staffroom and his supervisor reported that Hossain was the hardest working student she had ever seen on work experience! Hossain never liked to take breaks and was always asking everyone if they had any work for him to do. His supervisor said that she would certainly employ him as a member of staff if she could as the school loved having him around. She added that he would be an exceptional addition to any workplace in his future.

In his free time, Hossain says he likes to keep fit and exercises regularly. He also enjoys drawing and painting, and is a particular fan of the art of Michael Craig Martin whose work depicts everyday objects in bright acrylic colours. In addition, Hossain enjoys the challenge of creative writing, writing stories and poetry. He also describes himself as a sports fan.

Hossain should indeed be really proud of himself and everything that he has achieved so far at St Charles. Well done Hossain and keep up the good work!
