Study T Level Health

The T Level Technical Qualification in Health is a comprehensive Level 3 programme designed in collaboration with healthcare employers and professional bodies to prepare you for a career in the healthcare sector. Blending classroom academic learning, clinical simulation, and a substantial work placement, this course equips you with the essential core knowledge, clinical skills, and professional behaviours needed across the NHS and private healthcare settings.

You will explore human anatomy, physiology, and pathology alongside key principles of person-centred care, safeguarding, infection control, and health legislation. Alongside classroom instruction, you will complete a mandatory industry placement of at least 315 hours with an external healthcare employer, giving you direct, hands-on clinical and care experience. This qualification offers an ideal progression route into skilled healthcare employment, higher or degree apprenticeships, or university degree courses

Entry Requirements

6 GCSEs grades 4-9, including grade 4 in Maths and grade 4 in English Language, plus grade 4 or above in Science, or double MM in Level 2 Health and Social Care. 

Content

  1. Core Component (50% of qualification):
    • The Healthcare Sector: Working in the health sector, public/private funding, tiers of care, and multi-disciplinary team (MDT) dynamics.
    • Legislation, Safety & Governance: Health and safety regulations, safeguarding, data protection (UK GDPR, Caldicott Principles), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
    • Person-Centred Care & Wellbeing: The 6 Cs, NHS core values, human development across the lifespan, mental capacity, and health promotion.
    • Core & Further Science Concepts: Cell biology, large biological molecules, enzymes, pathogen transmission, immunology, and anatomy/pathophysiology across all major body systems (cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, endocrine, nervous, musculoskeletal, and urinary).
  2. Occupational Specialisms (50% of qualification):
    • Supporting Healthcare (OS Core – taken by all students | 370 GLH): Safe working environments, infection prevention (SICPs), personal care, recording vital signs (NEWS2), and assisting registered health professionals.
    • Occupational Specialism Pathway: 
      • Supporting the Adult Nursing Team.
  3. Industry Placement:
    •  A minimum of 315 hours of practical workplace experience with an employer in a healthcare setting.

Assessment

Assessment is structured across external written exams, an employer-set project, and synoptic occupational specialism projects.

  • Core Assessments (50% of total T Level):
    • Core Paper 1: Working in the Health Sector: Written exam (36% of core).
    • Core Paper 2: Science Concepts in Health: Written exam (24% of core).
    • Employer Set Project (ESP): Externally assessed project (40% of core). Assesses synoptic core skills through four tasks: research report, role play and reflection, updating a care plan, and a handover presentation.

 

  • Occupational Specialism Assessments (50% of total T Level):
    • OS Core: Supporting Healthcare (65% of OS mark): three tasks: health & wellbeing assessment, professional discussion, and recognising deterioration.
    • OS Pathway (35% of OS mark): assessing clinical tasks, daily living support, and specialized practical simulations.

 

  • Grading Structure:
    • Core & ESP are graded A*–E (or Unclassified).
    • Occupational Specialisms are graded Pass, Merit, Distinction (or Unclassified).
    • The overall T Level is awarded as Pass, Merit, Distinction, or Distinction*

Progression

University Degrees, Apprenticeships, and Careers The T Level in Health provides the threshold competence required for direct entry into healthcare support roles or progression into higher education:

  • Academic Progression (University Degrees):

Direct entry into competitive degree programmes such as Adult Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Paramedic Science, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and Healthcare Science. (Always confirm specific entry criteria with the university provider.)

  • Apprenticeships:

Direct alignment to Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker roles, with clear progression onto Level 5 Nursing Associate or Assistant Practitioner apprenticeships, and Level 6 Degree Apprenticeships.

  • Career Pathways:

Entry-level employment in roles such as:

  • Senior Healthcare Support Worker
  • Community Support Worker
  • Mental Health Support Worker
  • Therapy Assistant

Extra Curricular

The department provides access to a range of scientific journals, revision guides, and study aids to help improve your understanding and exam performance. Students have the opportunity to take part in various workshops, Olympiads and practical sessions to gain confidence and apply their knowledge.

Department Staff

Our team of experienced teachers, such as Miss Olanya, bring a wealth of academic expertise and professional sector knowledge across health, social care, and clinical practice. Lessons are varied and interactive, balancing formal theory with hands-on practical workshops in our specialist healthcare suites and simulation spaces.

Workshops are held regularly, providing dedicated one-to-one consultation time with staff to support coursework development, refine clinical and care techniques, and prepare thoroughly for assessments and exam success.
