The BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Sport provides learners with a vocational course that combines theory with practical methods of learning in a range of different units. The units delivered on the course include; Fitness for Sport, The Mind and Sports Performance, Leading Sports Activities and Anatomy and Physiology for Sport.
The students will also complete a level 1 Sports Leader qualification alongside the BTEC level 2 course. This qualification links directly to the unit leading sports activities. Students will also be given the opportunity to do a Level 1 coaching certificate in a range of sports (Football, Basketball, Table Tennis, Athletics, Boxing) leading to Sports Leader Award. This will further prepare the students for the field of work and progression onto the Level 3 BTEC in Sport course.
The General entry requirements are 4 GCSE’s at Grade 3 or above with a minimum 3 in GCSE English Language or Maths or a MERIT in Foundation Learning.

The BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Sport is a 12-unit qualification that consists of 2 Core units and 1 mandatory unit plus 9 optional specialist units chosen from the options list available for each endorsed title.

The units assessed will receive either of the following points per 10 guided learning hours:
2 (L1 pass), 4 (L2 pass) 6 (L2 merit) or 8 (L2 distinction)
Assessment on the course is mainly through the completion of written coursework assignments and projects which are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.
Students will be given formative feedback on these pieces of coursework following the submission. All student work is both internally and externally verified for quality control purposes.
There are 2 externally assessed units which are assessed through an online examination. These are:
Unit 1: Fitness for Sport
Unit 7: Anatomy & Physiology for Sport
The BTEC Level 2 prepares you to study a range Level 3 courses including the BTEC Level 3. The BTEC Level 2 is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills and understanding needed for progression onto any level 3 programme. This could be either A levels or another BTEC course. The qualification provides opportunities for you to focus on the development of personal, learning and thinking skills, functional skills, and wider skills in a sport context. The course also develops your knowledge of environmental issues as well as health and safety considerations. Students will be required to undertake a two-week work experience placement in April which will further develop the skills they have developed over the one-year study of the BTEC Level 2 in Sport. Just some the organisations you will have the opportunity of working with include Fitness First, Westway Sports & Fitness, Epic CC, Better, Virgin Active.

The BTEC course is predominantly theory based which provides students with many of the skills required to enhance their career aspirations within or outside of the sporting world. You will develop practical skills in your specialist areas and also learn about the other factors that contribute to improving performance.
The course is delivered by experienced staff will maximise your potential through a series of enjoyable and productive lessons. Progression to sports related degrees such as teaching, physiotherapy, sport science, sports studies and sports psychology as well as other non-sport related fields or employment.
