Student Experiences

Milosz

We attended The Maze Runner Competition which was a fantastic opportunity to attend. We had to build a Bluetooth controlled car, and we were provided with kits and instructions on how to make the cars. Then we had to insert code into the robots to actually make them function as intended. The challenge was to race against the other teams, then take part in robot wars where the last robot standing wins. Our team had the joy of winning both of the competitions and were able to take the cars home afterwards.

We then went to visit St Mary's University and Staffordshire University and experienced their brilliant facilities. This gave us the opportunity to explore our options for the future.

I have also had the pleasure of gaining work experience at Enable Infrastructure. In the work placement, we have been assigned 'admin' roles and have been assigned tasks every week. The first week was more of an introduction to the company and the office environment. The second week, we were tasked to try fix a laptop. There was a laptop which had a broken screen and we had to transplant a good and working screen from a doner laptop to the broken one. That went exceptionally smoothly and we managed to complete the task with little difficulty. In the third week we had an educational day where I learned about their system and their 'ticket' process. I went on a few calls with an IT worker where he explained everything. I then helped to solve those tickets and problems that other people had. In the fourth week we processed a leaver (wiped his work laptop, transferred his data into the company servers, did some admin work and removed him from the system).

I feel like the work placement is very beneficial to me and I really enjoy it .

This course has taught me so much, not only about the importance of being independent as a 16-year-old but also about the value of entering the workforce and gaining real-world experience.

I chose a T Level because it gives me the perfect mix of practical experience and academic learning. I wanted something more hands-on than A-Levels, where I could immediately apply what I was learning in real-world scenarios. The added industry placement aspect really stood out to me because it means I can build my skills and start gaining experience right away.

The course offers a great balance between coding, design, and real-world problem-solving, which is exactly what I was looking for. I was also excited by the opportunity to specialize in areas like app development and IT support.

The Elevate Series Masterclasses have helped me build important skills beyond the technical side of things, like communication, teamwork, and time management. The sessions were interactive and gave me the tools to handle challenges I might face in the workplace. It’s been a great way to boost my confidence and develop soft skills that are just as important as technical knowledge.

I’m currently doing my industry placement at the Church House Conference in Westminster Abbey, where I’m working in IT and AV. It’s been amazing to be involved in such a historic and busy environment while also learning practical skills in IT support and audiovisual systems. It’s really opened my eyes to the different tech roles that exist within events and conference management.

After finishing my T Level, I want to pursue a degree apprenticeship in IT or digital technology. I’m really interested in continuing to develop my technical skills while gaining real-world experience in a professional setting. A degree apprenticeship will allow me to keep learning while working in the field, which is exactly what I’m looking for.

I would definitely recommend a T Level if you want to get practical, industry-relevant experience while studying. It’s a great option if you’re looking for something hands-on and want to start building your career straight after completing the qualification. The industry placements are a big plus and will give you real insight into what your chosen field is like.

Julia

I chose T level mainly because of the work experience / placement. I think having experience in the work field of the subject is really useful as I would know what to expect at work, and I'd gain first-hand skills with working in a serious environment.

I have always had a strong passion for computing and programming in general, upon learning I could do a T level course on this subject, it was my first choice. I decided that this is what I wanted to do.

I would recommend T Levels if you are looking to focus on just one subject, and if you are sure what type of work-field you want to work in. It opens up many opportunities, especially since the course is built upon what employers were looking for.
