The Learning Support Department at St. Charles want to wish all their fantastic and loyal students goodbye and good luck as they move on this year! What a great bunch of young adults you are.
A Level - Ava Jayne Mogaji
Ava has had a wonderful journey at St. Charles. She came to St. Charles from Regent High School to study A Levels in Media, Religious Studies and Sociology.
She is in her second and final year with us and is planning to continue her studies at Kings College, London where she intends to study Social Sciences. Her teachers describe her as a model student with an ‘exemplary’ and outstanding attitude towards learning.’ Reflective and humble’. 'Well organised', 'methodical', 'conscientious' and 'focussed' are other frequently quoted adjectives used by her teachers. Her attendance and punctuality have consistently been excellent.
Highlights:
- Alongside her academic achievement, Ava has taken advantage of a variety of extracurricular activities which have complemented and developed her confidence and independence.
- In Year 12, Ava was selected to take part in the College’s 'Career Ready' programme when she worked with an assigned mentor from the world of work. Networking with professionals from industry, she developed work readiness and knowledge and understanding of career pathways.
- She was also a key member of a small group of students whose charity work for 'Caritas' (mentoring children at St Charles Primary School) led to a special award from the Diocese of Westminster.
- Ava volunteered at college Open Days in her subject departments speaking confidently and enthusiastically to prospective students and their parents.
- As part of the College’s Personal Development Programme she also volunteered with Mencap's 'Equal People' drop-in centre for adults with learning difficulties. The manager there spoke highly of her ability to engage with clients and her flexibility in tackling several new administrative tasks.
- As a student of Sociology and RS, Ava was a natural choice to take part in the Lessons from Auschwitz project run in conjunction with the Holocaust Education Trust where sixth formers have the opportunity to travel to Poland and visit the site of the Concentration Camps of Auschwitz Berkenau. Ava's moving reflections of her trip were ably expressed and disseminated through the college’s social media platforms and she contributed to a very powerful podcast on her experience which was also shared with the college community.
A modest and quiet person, Ava initially was reticent to offer her views and opinions freely but now she is a self-assured and far more assertive young person. She works independently and collaboratively, taking responsibility for her decisions and her future. We are very proud of Ava's progress with us at St Charles and wish her every success in her next steps.
When asked, what has been your most memorable moment at St. Charles? Ava stated “the visit to Auschwitz.” and what has been her greatest accomplishment during your time at St. Charles? She said “becoming more independent.”
