Study Physical Education
You should choose A Level Physical Education if you love being active and want to find out more about how to improve your sporting performance. This course will give you the opportunity to investigate the variety of activities and roles that you can undertake as a sports person. You will explore the array of factors that affect a person’s ability to train effectively and improve sporting performance. You will also examine a variety of external factors that affect the sports industry and encourage lifelong participation.
The General entry requirements for A Level courses are six GCSEs grades 9-4 and above, including English Language.
Grade 4 English - 4 in Science or PE
Component 1: Scientific Principles of PE.
- Topic 1: Applied anatomy and physiology.
- Topic 2: Exercise physiology and applied movement analysis.
- Biomechanics is embedded within the content of Topics 1 and 2.
Component 2: Psychological and Social Principles of PE.
- Topic 3: Skill acquisition.
- Topic 4: Sport psychology.
- Topic 5: Sport and society.
Component 3: Practical Performance.
- Skills performed in one physical activity as a player/performer (or)
- Skills performed in one physical activity as a coach.
Component 4: Performance Analysis and Performance Development Programme.
- In the role of player/performer or coach analyse two components of a physical activity.
- In the role of player/performer or coach analyse, implement and evaluate a Performance Development Programme.
Component 1: Scientific Principles of PE.
Written examination: 2 hours and 30 minutes.
40% of the qualification (140 marks).
Component 2: Psychological and Social Principles of PE.
Written examination: 2 hours.
30% of the qualification (100 marks).
Component 3: Practical Performance.
Non-examined assessment: internally assessed, externally moderated.
15% of the qualification (40 marks).
Component 4: Performance Analysis and Performance Development Programme.
Non-examined assessment: internally assessed, externally moderated.
15% of the qualification (40 marks).
The A Level Physical Education Course gives you an excellent grounding in the subject content needed to progress on to a sports science-based degree at university. You will also develop your knowledge of human anatomy and physiology in order get a job in the fast-growing leisure and recreation industry. Sports industry careers include becoming a Sports nutritionist, a sports psychologist, a variety of coaching roles, becoming a fitness professional and sports development.
