If you are interested in a career in Business and want to learn practical, work related skills then BTEC Level 3 Business is the perfect course for you.
Our course is designed to prepare students for specific careers in business. This means that students can tailor their studies to their career aspirations and gain relevant skills and knowledge along the way in areas such as Finance, Marketing, Human Resources and Operations Management.
Studying vocational BTEC level 3 business helps students;
Learn how to manage personal and business finances: including budgeting, investing, and risk management.
Gain practical experience: all our units of study are focused on giving students core skills for the world of work, similarly our work experience unit gives students the opportunity to spend two weeks working in an industry of their choosing to further enhance their career prospects.
Become entrepreneurs: For those interested in starting their own business, BTEC business provides the knowledge and skills needed to succeed and turn the idea into reality.
Business vocational education also provides students with broader work-based skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and leadership, which are essential in any career.
The General entry requirements for Advanced Vocational Programme courses are five GCSEs at grade 4 and above (4-9), including English Language.

The BTEC Level 3 National Diploma comprises of 13 units of work over the 2 years of study. There are 7 Mandatory units (3 internal and 4 external units) and 6 optional units.
This course requires applied learning that brings together knowledge and understanding with practical and technical skills. Learners will perform vocational tasks that encourage the development of appropriate vocational behaviors and transferable skills, such as communication, teamwork, research, and analysis, which are valued in both higher education and the workplace.
The course offers a balanced range of assessment methods, so you can demonstrate your knowledge of the sector in a range of scenarios, supporting your next step to higher education or into a career
BTEC level 3 is assessed through a unit by unit approach and offer a combination of assessment styles. These are Assignments (internally assessed), Task (externally assessed) and Written Exams (externally assessed)
Achievement is across units, with both internal and external units graded and appointed points. For all assessments, students will have an opportunity to secure a PASS, MERIT or DISTINCTION grade, with external units also having N grade.
Assessment is aimed at developing learners understanding of business theory and completing specific task, assignment, or written exam within an allocated time frame.
The final grade for the course is calculated based on the student’s overall performance and is the equivalent to three A-levels.
Studying Business will open your eyes to the wide range of job opportunities available, ranging from finance to marketing to management.
The Extended Diploma is a two-year, full-time course it is the equivalent to three A levels and this programme supports progression to higher education courses in business areas before entering employment.
Many of our business students’ progress onto University after leaving St Charles; 70% of BTEC Business students go onto study a business related degree. This ranges from generic courses such as Business Studies and International Business Management to more focused ones such as Accounting & Finance, Marketing and Human Resources Management.
Alternatively, you may choose to move onto an apprenticeship.

As well as learning the theory behind Business Studies you have the opportunity to put this into practice through our Enterprise enrichment.
As part of the Young Enterprise Programme, students have the chance to officially start-up their own company throughout the year. This includes designing websites, creating the product and selling it. This gives students’ excellent practical experiences of what it would be like to set up and manage your own firm and the students get to keep the net profit!
Students get the opportunity to attend trips to companies such as Goldman Sachs and Barclays to find out what it is like to work in business, as well as attend careers talks with businesses such as Nestle.
Finally, you will go on two-week work placement at the end of the first year. Previous placements have ranged from Law firms to banks. You will be expected to complete a research project in support of one of your units in the second year.
In the past two years, Business btec students have had the opportunity to visit a range of successful businesses and speak to leaders in industry, this has included; Mcvitties, Innocent and TFL as well as many other smaller, more dynamic organisations that have come in to speak to students about their work and the factors driving their success.
The business department shares a vision in creating a department that is engaging, skills driven and exam focused. All teachers within the department have extensive teaching experience and are committed to helping students reach their full potential in the subject area and to helping them with their next steps after College.
